And in other news ...

For a while now I’ve been working from home and also sharing a hot desk at a fremantle co-working space [fspace]. But over the summer, kHQ moved into its very own studio space on South Terrace in South Freo. It’s a little room in the front of a yet-to-be-renovated rickety cottage and it works just fine.

I often have my window open so I can watch the streetscape and exchange waves across the pavement. I definitely welcome hot cross bun deliveries from the bakery across
the road.

During my design process, I do a lot of mucking around both onscreen and offscreen. This example from a recent branding project didn’t make the final edit, but I had great fun playing with some of my favourite things – colourful paper cut outs, lots of loose scribbles, and botanicals! This one depicts a donkey orchid from the WA Wheatbelt.

Aren’t those ‘ears’ the sweetest?

I’m really into ponds right now.

I love them so much that I’ve been making and gifting mini ponds to all my friends. All you need is a shallow dish and a pond plant that can twirl around – no soil required! For this one I’ve used a random terracotta dish I had in the garden, and added an edible ground cover called Gotu Kola (in Vietnamese it’s Rao Ma).

I love it because it has gorgeous bright green lily-pad shaped leaves AND both its stem and leaves are edible! Use it as a substitute for parsley to make chimichurri and add it to packet noodle soup. Yum.
